Happy Thanksgiving...

  1. Father John: since Thanksgiving falls within the Advent fast, shouldn't the turkey's sign read "Eat Beans" instead of beef.....? Just a thought..

  2. I hadn't presumed the turkey was Orthodox. Actually, in the Antiochian Archdiocese there is a one day economia for Thanksgiving.

  3. Personally, I keep the fast strictly, but every year I try out ROCOR and "Old Calendar" Orthodoxy on Thanksgiving just to see if I like it better...then on Friday I always think, "Nah, I'll stick with the OCA". :) (Actually our Bishop says eat and be thankful. Gratitude is a virtue, fasting is a tool.

  4. This picture portrays a turkey trying to save its life by telling people to eat beef on Thanksgiving.

People tend to hold a similar sign when a project has been designated to be built in their neighborhood. It's called NIMBY -- not in my back yard. Build it somewhere else.
